2003-04-25 - 4:19 p.m.

I drove my car to school for the first time in ages yesterday because it was raining. I hate driving. No, I don't hate driving. I like driving. I just don't like cars. That's it - I hate cars! I wish mine would collapse soon so that I can be completely car-less. Damn imports. Why do they have to work so well? I haven't changed the oil in over ten months. I just keep adding to it when it gets low. I abuse that thing like it's nobody's bidness - Why won't it just die?

Anyway, I was at the corner of 21st and Broadway, waiting for the light to turn and, since my windows were down, I could hear these chirping like crazy. My eyes followed the sound to these three little birds that were fighting underneath the car next to me. They kept fighting, even as the light turned green. I watched in slow motion as the car took off. Crunch! Little bit later - CRUNCH! Two smears of black, red and green on the pavement. Only one of them left the fight with its life.

They had been so engrossed in their squabble that by the time they saw the black rubber rolling their way, there was nothing they could do about it. I felt as if Nature were providing me with its own poignant analogy.

I'm going to Massachusetts at the end of next month! Roundtrip tix were only $173 from Sac to Hartford, CT. Irresistable! I leave the day after school gets out and come back two days before summer session. The perfect break from school. If it's warm enough, I'll relive the old days and go skinnydipping at that pond way up in the hills. Whoohoo!
