Fall is definitely my time of year! I love the chilling weather, the darkening skies, and the palpable air of change that seems to hang over everything. It gives me that micro-waved-hamster-in-the-tummy feeling, all warm and fuzzy on the inside.

I�m in a Leonard Cohen mood today, which tends to be an ultra-mellow one. Listening to him goes well with the relaxed, reflective state of mind that I find myself in. If only I had on a pair of warm slippers and a glass of vintage port, I�d be set. mmm. And maybe a slice of Tiramisu. mmm� Well, at any rate, his music just touches something inside me (hence the description of this entry), like this verse from �So Long, Marianne�:

You know that I love to live with you,
but you make me forget so very much.
I forget to pray for the angels
and then the angels forget to pray for us.

My sentiments exactly, just more poetically portrayed. I�ve long felt that dependent relationships, no matter what their form, are enormous obstacles to the development of an individual on all fronts, especially the spiritual. Just to be clear, I do believe that man has a spiritual need, but I don�t limit spirituality to God or religion, although it incorporates those concepts. To me, that spiritual need is a need to pursue wisdom, to contemplate the ineffable nature of That-Which-Is, and to understand our role (if any) therein. However, filling that need means allowing ourselves to be molded by new understanding, to be receptive to and even invite change. The anchor of dependency impedes that sinuous series of changes required for living a spiritual life.

Ok, so maybe that's not exactly what he had in mind, but eh, who cares? Certainly not me. It's 1:30 in the morning and the tequila's telling me that I should call it quits and hit the hay. I agree.
